A trip to the summit of the Stubnerkogel in Bad Gastein never ceases to be rewarding: Enthroned right across from the 140 meters-long footbridge, which sways gently in the wind, is a new, attractive observation platform with a name that says it all – Glocknerblick, the “Glockner View”.

“It was the enthusiastic response of visitors to the new suspension bridge, which gave us the decisive impulse to enrich Stubnerkogel lookout mountain with one more attraction”, states lift company executive, Franz Schafflinger.

To those visitors who dare to make their way all the way up there, it affords fantastic views of Austria’s highest mountain, the Grossglockner. This round, scenic “plateau” is seven meters in diameter, made mainly of steel and wood. On its sides, wire-mesh fences provide additional safety for visitors, but do not obstruct the view. The upper area, which actually protrudes out over the edge of the mountain, also features glass apertures in the floor, allowing visitors to peer down into the abyss below. Franz Schafflinger: “Not something everyone will be prepared to try, especially if you have issues with vertigo!”

The new platform is accessed by a walkway that climbs gently.
