Gastein mountain lifts capture first place
A combination of coherent product development and an extraordinarily beautiful summer generated record results for Gasteiner Bergbahnen AG in the previous summer season. This commercial success was also rewarded with a victory in the International Ski Area Summer Test 2015.
1st Place for the Gastein Mountain Lifts
In recent years, the quality checks conducted as part of the International Ski Area Test have become a key benchmark when it comes to safety, quality, guest service and innovative ideas in lift operations within the Alpine region. The summer awards are determined by means of an anonymous evaluation by an expert jury looking at lift amenities, local attractions, customer service and marketing.
“Our nuanced development of offers on the Stubnerkogel, Schlossalm and Graukogel was received well, both by the testers and customers alike”, proclaims Franz Schafflinger, C.E.O. of the lift company.
Aside from first prize in overall rankings, Gasteiner Bergbahnen AG was also able to capture prizes for innovation. The summer awards ceremony took place in Pertisau am Achensee (Tyrol), with representatives of the Gastein lifts delighted to return home with their trophies in hand.
“Almorama” as an umbrella brand
The umbrella brand “Almorama” aims to better acquaint guests with the wealth of summertime experiences available in the mountains. The Gastein lifts have been intensively focused on summer operations since back in 2006, developing strategies to invigorate the mountains during the warmer times of year.
C.E.O. Franz Schafflinger: “We took a very close look at our three mountains and set ourselves the goal of developing distinctive offers on each individual mountain.”
Under the header “Schau´n und Trau´n” (“take a look and be bold”), the profile of the Stubnerkogel as a lookout mountain was heightened: with the aid of an astonishing 360-degree panorama, a viewing platform, the Rock Path and a suspension bridge which, though demanding some degree of courage, always leaves visitors with unforgettable impressions.
The motto at the Schlossalm is “Discover yourself in the rock and stone”, with a particular emphasis on families with children – including via ferrata climbs of all difficulty levels, a playground for the kids and mountain carts.
Things on the Graukogel are a little more tranquil. There, the atmosphere is shaped by 200 to 300-year-old stone pine trees, providing a totally natural highlight. The Zirbe (Swiss pine) is good for the heart, literally, with many positive benefits for our overall quality of health. The Pine Path – which starts and finishes next to the mountain terminal of the lifts – the pine recliners, a fragrant pine nest, and perhaps even a pine schnapps enjoyed at the Graukogelhütte, are all well received by visitors.
Recreational opportunities on the Fulseck revolve around water, earth and air. At Mirror Lake, you can develop your balancing skills as you cross a wobbly bridge, while hang- and paragliding flights promise airier adventures.
The fruits of all this work in Gastein Valley are impressive: Over the last four years, the number of summertime lift passengers has more than doubled, from 75,000 to 150,000 guests. The percentage of annual earnings generated during the summer season has ramped up from four to eight percent – with room for even greater improvement. In fact, the leadership team is striving towards summer earnings accounting for between 10 and 15 percent.
With that goal in mind, new ticket products have been developed. Aside from the compelling combination of “Mountains & Spas”, the Dorfgastein Mountain Lifts were also brought on board. The Fulseck has now been incorporated, while the “Almorama Card” represents a ticket for complete summertime experiences in the mountains of Gastein Valley, with the two lift companies also publishing a joint summer brochure.
