Scenic circular hiking trail at Stubnerkogel

There’s a reason why Stubnerkogel in Bad Gastein is known as the region’s panoramic mountain. 360-degree views, a spectacular suspension bridge, and numerous vantage points such as the Glocknerblick and Talblick viewing platforms: This mountain is a genuine highlight for fans of stunning Alpine vistas.

Hike to all vantage points

Along the “Stubnerkogel Aussichtspunkte-Rundwanderweg”, you can see all of the abovementioned vantage points. To make the most of them, we recommend seeing them in the following order

ATTENTION: Stubnerkogel Parking
There is limited parking available at the Stubnerkogel valley station. Due to spatial constraints, the parking area may be fully occupied by late morning during peak season. We recommend using public transport – there are plenty of convenient options to reach the Stubnerkogel without a car.

Aussichtsplattform Glocknerblick am Stubnerkogel im Sommer

1. Glocknerblick viewing platform

Your adventure starts at the mountain station of Stubnerkogelbahn cable car. From there, follow the signposted trail towards the Glocknerblick viewing platform. Once you’re there, you’ll be rewarded with fantastic views of Austria’s highest mountain, the Großglockner (3,798 meters), and many other impressive summits in Salzburg, Tyrol, Carinthia, Styria, and nearby Bavaria.

2. Felsenweg trail

Passing below the Glocknerblick viewing platform, walk along the ridge to get to Felsenweg trail, which runs along steep, jagged rock faces. After crossing a 16-meter-long, free-floating suspension bridge, you will reach the next striking vantage point: a bright orange viewing platform perched on a plateau offering stunning views across the valley.

3. Talblick viewing platform

Walk back from Felsenweg trail to the mountain station and continue towards the Talblick viewing platform from there. From the platform, you enjoy a one-of-a-kind bird’s eye view of the depths below and across the valley. The platform is perched on a promontory, giving visitors the impression that they are “floating” above the abyss. Similar to an open-air movie theater, you can sit down on the sitting steps beside the stairs and take in the amazing scenery.

4. Transmission tower & summit cross

From Felsenweg trail, a slightly uphill path runs to the transmission tower adorned with impressive street art. From there, you can also reach the wooden Stubnerkogel summit cross.

5. Suspension bridge

The highlight of your walk along the scenic circular hiking trail is the 140-meter-long suspension bridge that leads up to the terrace of Stubner summit restaurant. The bridge is not for the faint at heart, as it is both slightly swaying and see-through. If you dare to cross the bridge, you’ll be rewarded with jaw-dropping views and a relaxed break at the restaurant.

The Schlossalmbahn will be closed on the following dates due to maintenance work:

  • September 21 – September 23
  • September 28 - September 30
  • October 5 - October 7

The Stubnerkogel lifts remain open. On all other days, the Schlossalmbahn operates as scheduled.
