A research centre full of mountain stories

What actually makes a mountain come alive? MONTELUMA explores exactly this question. The journey takes visitors into a fictional research centre hidden deep beneath Schlossalm. Here, wildlife, alpine plants, weather data, rocks and the changes in nature throughout the seasons are explored.

What makes MONTELUMA special: Knowledge is not simply presented in this immersive exhibition. Interactive projections, games, movement, light and sound bring alpine connections to life and make them tangible. MONTELUMA combines fascinating insights into the mountain world with playful and emotional experiences.

The MONTELUMA experience stations

A journey into the heart of the Gastein mountains, where new discoveries await at every station. In six interactive and immersive experience zones, visitors can uncover the secrets of nature. Some challenges call for knowledge and a spirit of discovery, while others put skill and teamwork to the test. For the grand finale, MONTELUMA takes its visitors on a virtual flight over the mountains of the Gastein Valley.

The secret elevator: A journey into the mountain

The journey begins in what appears to be an ordinary elevator. But after just a few moments, it becomes clear that this journey leads deeper than expected. During the virtual ride, different research areas pass by, offering a glimpse of what lies hidden beneath Schlossalm.

Exploring the Alps: The discovery stations

What lives, grows and forms in the Gastein mountains? Four interactive stations invite visitors to discover the alpine natural world from different perspectives.

The journey takes visitors through the local flora and fauna, explores different layers of rock and reveals fascinating weather phenomena. Many things can be tried out firsthand, making learning not just informative but a fun, hands-on experience.

The great Snow Challenge: Try your hand at snowmaking

The Snow Challenge reveals just how much planning goes into keeping ski slopes covered in snow. Working together, visitors must place virtual snow wherever it is needed, taking the prevailing weather conditions into account. As temperatures and weather conditions change, strategies must be adapted accordingly. At the same time, an artificial intelligence system is trained. Accurate decisions and good teamwork earn points.

The magical Sea of Flowers: Alpine flora at your fingertips

In the Sea of Flowers, the plant life of the Gastein mountains becomes an immersive experience. Oversized projected flowers spread across the room and respond to touch. With every interaction, the scenery transforms, revealing new impressions. Light and projections bring alpine flora to life in extraordinary ways, creating a unique backdrop for memorable photos.

Soaring over Gastein: The Explorer 5D Adventure

With Explorer 5D, MONTELUMA takes flight. Accompanied by an eagle, the virtual journey begins above the summer landscapes of the Gastein mountains before heavy snowfall transforms the scenery into a winter wonderland. A moving platform and a range of special effects enhance the sensation of flying over mountains and ski slopes

.

Eagle flight: Take off for the Grand Finale

For the grand finale, the roles are reversed: visitors now control the eagle themselves, guiding it through the virtual landscape using their body movements. Along the way, they must collect as many feathers as possible. Each feather extends the flight time and earns additional points. Those who navigate with particular skill stay airborne the longest.
