140 m Suspension Bridge

Stubnerkogel

Bad Gastein

One of the main attraction at the Stubnerkogel is the suspension bridge which is easily accessible from the restaurant at the summit station. As the 140 m long and one metre wide bridge was built as a swinging rope construction which leads directly from the terrace of the restaurant to the sender station, some visitors might get a real thrill. Strong nerves are definitely needed in order to cross the hanging bridge since it is transparent. A wire mesh guard rail is the only thing that separates adventurous skywalkers from a 28 m drop.

“With its support and wind cables to limit vibration the bridge can withstand wind speeds of up to 200 km/h”, Franz Schafflinger, manager of the lift operator, puts our minds at rest. His idea to build a suspended bridge here came from seeing visitors who always “stared across the cliffs in awe“. “At first I was only joking”, Schafflinger continues, “when I said we would span a hanging bridge across!”

A ride up to the Stubnerkogel is recommended when doing some holidays in the Gastein valley, as three different main attractions are already awaiting their visitors: The suspension bridge, the Rock Trail and the viewing platform Großglockner from which one you can enjoy breath-taking views into the Hohe Tauern range.
